CGT’s signature 14 day safari includes two national parks in the Congo Basin, one in the Republic of Congo and one in the Central African Republic. These protected forests are home to western lowland gorillas, forest elephants and buffaloes, bongo and sitatunga antelopes, giant forest and red river hogs, leopards, African Grey parrots and many different monkey species.

There are several means of access to this remote area. The most adventurous route, and the only one which allows you a complete look at both the Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic is CGT’s IN Brazza OUT Bangui. There is no backtracking involved. You move forward every day, exploring new territory.

Central Africa programs:

You must begin in Brazzaville to see the Congo River as it is located on its shores. Kinshasa, the capital of the larger Democratic Republic of Congo, is clearly visible on the opposite bank. You have another opportunity to see the DRC, this time across the Oubangui River, the Congo Rivers significant tributary, from Bangui at the very end of your tour. You do, in a sense, come full circle.

There is the option of beginning CGT’s tour in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This alternate approach adds two days to the schedule. Beginning in Kinshasa provides the opportunity for primate enthusiasts to visit the bonobo sanctuary, the only one of its kind in the world. Bonobos are humans nearest living relative.

IN Brazza OUT Bangui:

There is no backtracking involved. You move forward every day, exploring new territory

IN Bangui OUT Brazza:

Reversing the order of the tour complicates logistics slightly over IN Brazza OUT Bangui, but allows for the extension to Gabon and Sao Tome.

IN Brazza OUT Brazza:

This uses Brazzaville as its entry and exit portal. Dzanga-Ndoki National Park can be included or excluded. Ending in Brazzaville allows for a simple transition to Gabon and Sao Tome.

In Bangui OUT Bangui:

This uses Bangui as the tour’s entry and exit portal. Nouabale-Ndoki National Park can be included or excluded.
